IoT-based Smart Vehicle Monitoring and Analysis System

In order to reduce the increasing accident rate of vehicles and also the death rate on roads yearly, the Transport Ministry of Malaysia is keen to study the flexible road tax payment system based on the vehicle drivers’ driving behavior as one of the incentives for prudent drivers. Moreover, existing vehicle monitoring systems in the market mostly use Global Positioning System (GPS) to estimate the vehicle’s speed and location which results may be inaccurate once the data network coverage changes according to the route traveled by the vehicle.

Therefore, the aim of this project is to develop a system called Smart Vehicle Monitoring and Analysis System (VMAS). The system is able to monitor and analyze the car engine parameters such as engine temperature, speed, brake status measurement and mileage through the application of the Internet of Things (IoT) technology with On-Board Diagnostics (OBD-II) device as well as a cloud database management system for data storage and analysis.

It provides real-time data upload, service alert notifications, GPS location tracking and reacts to accident detection by sending email or SMS to pre-defined emergency services or personnel via FAVORIOT‘s platform. The cloud server can be accessed remotely by authorized or administrative personnel via a monitoring webpage. The user-friendly web-browser will provide complete visibility uploaded data in real time as well as instant activities reports and history logs.

It is foreseen that the proposed IoT based Smart VMAS can be a potential solution for improving road safety as people will be mindful of their driving attributes in order to secure low road tax payment as well as a virtual black box in case of accidents. The extracted data can also be used for other purposes such as issuing premium from insurance companies and diagnostic tests by vehicle manufacturers.

IoT-based Office Monitoring and Automation System

January 19th, 2018 Posted by IOT PLATFORM 0 thoughts on “IoT-based Office Monitoring and Automation System”

The new technology today has made the things become smart which they can communicate with each other and produce the effective product such as the smart home or smart office system. Human ability is very limited as it is difficult to monitor the security and safety of the office 24 hours per day. Unauthorized access to the office has led to many dangerous cases such as loss of expensive computers as well as equipment. In order to prevent and avoid the problem from happening, the IoT-based security system is one of the promising effective solutions which allow the user to monitor the person entering and exiting the office in real-time anytime and anywhere.

In addition, the system also can prevent from any unauthorized access into the building as the system only allow the specific or authorized person to enter the house or office. In addition, the control system is proposed to provide the control system for the office electrical component such as lamp, fan and air condition. This idea is to allow the user control their electrical component on or off from any time and anywhere. The control system can allow the user to monitor and control the electrical component by IOT-based that connect the component to the internet.

The proposed IoT system three main parts: the things, the cloud, and the network. The system will include a Near Field Communication (NFC) reader, processing unit board, alarm, magnetic lock, automation lamp, the bell, and gateway. The Raspberry Pi 3 will be used as the gateway for the system and also as processing unit board. For the cloud including the server, database, enterprise services (dashboard) and the interconnection between it, FAVORIOT IoT platform will be used.

Intelligent Water-Saving Irrigation System in Wireless Sensor Network

January 19th, 2018 Posted by IOT PLATFORM 0 thoughts on “Intelligent Water-Saving Irrigation System in Wireless Sensor Network”

Garden irrigation system, garden monitoring system and other garden systems are related to the plant’s care method. For examples, the garden irrigation system uses a solenoid valve to implement auto-watering plants that drip slowly to the roots, while garden monitoring system sends data such as soil moist level and a warning message to the user whenever the plants need water.

However, the system is not water-saving and cost-ineffective because the price of these systems is very expensive in the market. Therefore, this project will propose an intelligent water-saving irrigation system in wireless sensor network environment which manages to intelligently control plants watering rate that can be work manually and automatically depending on the condition of soil humidity. Thus, improve the weakness of the previous system. The proposed project also guarantees low-price by adopting Arduino UNO with multi-sensors such as soil moist sensor and light sensor.

In addition, this project will cover a small and large area of garden with the aid of the Internet of Things (IoT) utilizing FAVORIOT IoT Cloud platform and Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). Both fundamental will benefit human lifestyle in the future and both developments in our agriculture system will smooth the working environment in this field, reduce the cost of hiring workers and water efficient during irrigation.
